There’s no need for a suggestion. If he or she is really sick, the prayer will come. You don’t need to worry about the words. God will know what you mean. And remember, a really hearty cry relieves a lot of psychological problems. Don’t ever be ashamed of crying. I remember a South Indian saint used to say, “God, I know the trick. I know how to get You. If I cry, You cannot resist. If I cry, I’ll get You; but my ego never allows me to cry.”

The quote might be from a South Indian saint, but it’s very true in American culture too, varying degrees depending on where and when you were born. Crying is so powerful and universally understood that it’s our very first form of communication. Babies cry with no shame. And we listen.
